Congresswoman Lee Statement on 8th Anniversary of 1 October Mass Shooting
LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) released the following statement on the eighth anniversary of the tragic October 1, 2017, shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada:
“Eight years ago today, Las Vegas experienced the deadliest mass shooting in American history. That day, our community changed forever. 60 innocent souls were lost, more than 800 people were injured, and thousands of Nevadans were traumatized.
“In the days, months, and years that followed, southern Nevadans united in strength and resilience and called for commonsense gun safety reform. I heard their calls. When I got to Congress, I worked across the aisle to pass the historic Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. But it is not enough.
“Today, we continue to see devastating gun violence across our nation. Congress can and must do more to end this crisis.
“On this anniversary, we remember those we lost and continue our call for further action. I’m grateful to the first responders, nurses, doctors, and hospital staff who sprang into action that day to care for victims and save lives.
“Today, and every day, we are Vegas Strong.”
