Rep. Susie Lee Secures Funding for Henderson Workforce Training Center in Funding Bill

June 25, 2021

WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Susie Lee announced that she secured the inclusion of $1 million for the Henderson Workforce Training Center in the 2022 Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) appropriations bill.

This funding will make a critical difference in the lives of people in Nevada's Third Congressional District. The planned Henderson Workforce Training Center will be a 25,000 square-foot facility focused on creating a skilled advanced manufacturing workforce that spurs growth in this sector for small businesses. The Center will provide instruction through College of Southern Nevada (CSN), with curriculum developed in collaboration with industry leaders. The Center will also allow small businesses and other employers to customize training procedures according to their needs. Funding provided through the appropriations committee would help to outfit the Center with advanced manufacturing training equipment.

"I've always felt that Nevada has incredible potential in the manufacturing sector as a way of diversifying our economy, and this past year has shown us just how important it is that we focus on diversifying our economy and creating good-paying jobs," said Rep. Susie Lee. "That's why I am so proud to have secured this much-needed funding for the Henderson Workforce Training Center, which will train skilled workers in the manufacturing sector. I will never stop fighting to ensure that Southern Nevada gets the federal funding we need to make our community stronger."

"The City is grateful to Congresswoman Lee for this $1 million in Community Project Funding, which will further our vision for the Henderson Workforce Training Center of Excellence," said Henderson Mayor Debra March. "The training center will be focused on creating a skilled workforce for advanced manufacturing in Southern Nevada that spurs economic growth and diversification and generates high-wage job opportunities for our residents."

Rep. Susie Lee submitted several Community Project Funding requests to the Appropriations Committee, of which she is a member. Information on the status of additional requests will be announced in the coming days.

The inclusion of this funding in the Appropriations Committee draft bill is the first step in the funding process. Rep. Susie Lee will continue to fight for this funding as the bill moves to the full Appropriations Committee, consideration on the House Floor, and negotiations with the Senate.
