Fox 5 Vegas: Nevada congresswoman addresses housing costs

January 5, 2024

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - The cost of everyday living seems to get higher every year. Now, affordable housing advocates are coming together to address skyrocketing housing and energy costs.

Congresswoman Susie Lee, who represents Nevada’s 3rd District, held a forum Friday to talk about these issues.

She discussed what’s being done at the federal level to address costs for Nevadans.

Lee also highlighted a slew of local partnerships, including United Way of Southern Nevada, Nevada HAND and The Just One Project.

The congresswoman said local organizations are used to get federal funding into the hands of people who need it in the community.

“In Washington, we’re fighting to get federal resources into our state,” Lee said. “But once it comes to the state, the state has to get it out to partner organizations, who then reach out to individuals who are struggling.”

Lee also mentioned these programs are available to help seniors access resources online, as well as bilingual resources for Spanish speakers.

“Making sure seniors who don’t have the ability or capability of getting online, that they actually have a person, like a live person that they can talk to.”
