Immigration & Border Security
Our immigration system and southern border have been broken for decades, jeopardizing our national security and economy.
That’s why I supported the Senate’s tough and fair bipartisan border security deal that was negotiated by both parties and have called on House Republican leadership to let us vote on it. I also worked with Republicans and Democrats to craft a bipartisan proposal to hire 1,500 new border patrol agents and crack down on fentanyl entering the U.S. I’m a cosponsor of the bipartisan Dignity Act and a staunch advocate for comprehensive, bipartisan immigration reform that will secure our borders and create a system that is fast, fair, and final for anyone seeking a better life and to contribute to our economy. It’s critical that we protect our border, create a path to citizenship, and process asylum claims more efficiently, so those who are fleeing violence and persecution can come here to live, work, pay taxes, and strengthen our economy.
We need to keep people safe, boost our economy, and preserve the American Dream.
Protecting Our Border
As a member of the Democrats for Border Security Task Force, I’m working to ensure that our law enforcement has all the tools and resources they need to protect our border and go after human and drug traffickers. I’m proud to have voted to increase funding for border patrol personnel and fentanyl scanning technology. I’m fighting to make sure our border is fully funded in smart and efficient ways.
Creating a Path to Citizenship
Every day, I have conversations with House Republicans and just about all of them agree we need to protect our border and process asylum claims more efficiently, so those who are fleeing violence and persecution can come here to live, work, pay taxes, and strengthen our economy. I have helped craft a framework to protect our border, support our economy, and provide a pathway to citizenship. But unfortunately, the far-right leadership on the other side of the aisle has decided to continue to use our immigration system as a political football.
Boosting Our Economy and Workforce
Immigration reform is key to addressing worker shortage, strengthening our supply chain, and boosting our competitiveness. Whether I'm talking to a big casino owner, a small business owner, a construction company, or a renewable energy company, the number one issue that gets brought to my attention is workforce issues. Las Vegas is a community, an industry, and an economy that was built on the backs of immigrant labor.
