KOLO: Representatives Mark Amodei and Susie Lee weigh in on Federal Government Shutdown

October 3, 2025

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Both Representatives Mark Amodei and Susie Lee have shared their thoughts and concerns on the federal government shutdown.

Democratic Representative Susie Lee says that she is concerned about this shutdown, saying that she hopes everyone can come together on compromise to get things back up and running.

Lee says her main concern with the health care crisis is that Nevada families are already struggling to put food on the table, pay rent and now to potentially have higher cost of insurance, and people denied insurance through the government will be a disaster for the Silver State.

“This is about families who are going to work every day, who are trying to make ends meet, who simply cannot afford an extra $450. That’s on average, going out the door for health insurance.” says Lee.

Lee says her parents had to go without health insurance, when her dad lost his job in his late 50’s. Lee shares that ultimately, this led to them not seeing doctors as often, and led to her mother having a heart attack, and needing to go to the emergency room. Lee says that bill, costed a similar amount to her parents house at the time.

“And what we’re going to see is millions of Americans are going to make that choice that my parents were forced to make and then be in a situation where if have a health emergency, it’s catastrophic for them and their families like it was for my family,” says Lee.

She says, “They need to come to the table. They understand what’s at risk. Let’s come to a compromise and end this. And I think it’s time for us to come together and come to a compromise.”
