KSNV: Congresswoman Susie Lee introduces bipartisan bill to address Nevada doctor shortage

March 7, 2025

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Congresswoman Susie Lee introduced a new bipartisan bill aimed at tackling the doctor shortage in Southern Nevada.

Speaking at the University Medical Center alongside healthcare industry representatives, Lee highlighted the critical need for more physicians in the state.

All 17 counties in Nevada are designated as health professional shortage areas, with the state ranking 45th in the nation for its physician-to-resident ratio.

Nevada currently has 218 physicians per 100,000 people.

During the event, Lee urged Governor Joe Lombardo to encourage congressional Republicans to oppose proposed Medicaid cuts. "But I want to be clear it's not just Medicaid recipients... proposed Medicaid cuts," Lee said. She added, "It's real simple. It's up to Republicans... Senate and the White House."

According to the nonpartisan health research group KFF, more than 811,000 Nevadans are enrolled in Medicaid.
