KSNV: Congresswoman Susie Lee warns of Medicaid cuts' impact on Nevadans

February 21, 2025

Las Vegas (KSNV) — Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) joined local families, healthcare providers, and nonprofit organizations at the Collaboration Center to raise concerns about the potential impact of federal funding cuts to Medicaid proposed in the Congressional Republicans' budget.

Lee emphasized the critical role Medicaid plays in Nevada, where 811,962 residents are enrolled in the program.

This includes nearly 40% of the state's children, more than half of nursing home residents, and one-third of people with disabilities.

"This Republican Project 2025 budget will devastate thousands of families, children, and elderly," Lee said. "It’s a simple formula: cut Medicaid to pay for tax cuts for billionaires and big corporations. Lives are literally on the line, and today I heard the stories from parents, healthcare providers, and nonprofits – all who know that Medicaid provides critical care to Nevada families, seniors in nursing homes, children, and our disability community."

Lee was joined by several community leaders, including Cindy Goussak, CEO of Collaboration Center Foundation; Dr. Linda Johnson-McClinton, founder and president of Enriching Explorations in Engineering, Inc. (E3); Sussan Fung, clinical director of Zane Medical Group; Jshauntae Marshall, founder of Blume Maternity Support Services; Tina Alicea, CEO of Safe Harbor Medical; Tiffany Welt Doctors, attorney at Welt Law; and Ron Sumbang, CEO of ECHO Group Homes and parent of a child with disabilities.

Medicaid enjoys broad support across the political spectrum, with three-quarters of Americans backing the program, including 63% of Republicans, 87% of Democrats, and 81% of Independents.
