KSNV: Nevada congresswoman calls on Amodei to rescind Clark County land sales amendment

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A Nevada congresswoman has called on her colleague to rescind an amendment that would sell public land in Clark County to help fund a federal reconciliation bill.

U.S. Rep. Susie Lee, D-Nevada, says she sent the letter to GOP Rep. Mark Amodei, calling the proposal a way "to subsidize Republicans' reckless spending and billionaire tax cuts."

Amodei, who represents much of northern Nevada, introduced the amendment last week during a marathon hearing of the House Natural Resources Committee.

He admitted during the hearing that his fellow representatives from Nevada did not approve of including Clark County's federally-controlled land but said the inclusion came at the county's request.

The amendment met swift rebukes from other members of Nevada's congressional delegation and conservation advocates.

In her letter, Lee says Amodei did not notify her or U.S. Reps. Steven Horsford and Dina Titus, all of whom represent Clark County.

"Prior to the surprise introduction of your 33-page proposal, you failed to collaborate or consult with — or even alert — any member of Nevada’s federal delegation elected by the voters of Clark County," she wrote.

The congresswoman argued the amendment doesn't clarify how many acres would be sold. She also said it's not consistent with the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act, which keeps proceeds from public land sales in the Silver State.

"The sooner that you agree to end this unfortunate — and entirely unnecessary — episode in the history of Nevada and the Nevada delegation, the better for us all," Lee wrote.

News 3 has reached out to a spokesperson for Amodei for a response to Lee's letter.
