KSNV: Nevada's members of Congress call for relief for workers hit by virus closures

March 18, 2020

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Nevada's congressional delegation is calling on leaders in Washington to pass financial support for people in the state hit by coronavirus-sparked closures.

Reps. Dina Titus, Mark Amodei, Steven Horsford and Susie Lee and Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen all signed onto the letter released Wednesday.

In their letter, they ask congressional leadership to provide relief for workers in the travel and tourism industries.

"As the coronavirus pandemic has intensified in the United States over the past week, we are calling on our colleagues to work together to combat the potential decline in travel to the United States," the letter states.

The delegation said they are proud the state's tourism industry prioritized safety, but explained that workers face serious financial issues.

"We need to be looking out for everybody: our small businesses, Nevada's vital gaming, tourism and outdoor recreation industries, and most importantly, our workers, especially those in the hospitality industry, who are the lifeblood of the Silver State," they wrote.
