KSNV: Rep. Lee warns funding pause threatens after-school programs in Clark County schools
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Congresswoman Susie Lee emphasized the critical role federal funds play in supporting after-school programs in the valley, warning that a continued funding pause could have dire consequences.
Lee highlighted that After-School All-Stars Las Vegas might be forced to cancel programs in 13 Clark County School District (CCSD) schools this fall if the funding pause persists.
The loss of $1.5 million in support would leave 1,600 students without after-school care.
"Our families are hurting, and these cuts are going to continue to add on," Lee said. "Now you're either going to have to pay for childcare... harder for working families to get ahead."
The funding pause would have jeopardized $30 million for CCSD alone. The announcement of the pause came just one day before the funds were scheduled to be utilized by the district.
