KTNV: Remembering Dec. 6: UNLV community honoring those lost in campus shooting
LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — One year ago today, a gunman took the lives of three professors at the University of Nevada Las Vegas campus.
Now, on Dec. 6, 2024, the campus community is invited to honor those faculty members. Faculty, students and recent UNLV alumni will share their stories of perseverance.
Channel 13 will bring you coverage throughout the day of how the university is coming together to remember this day.
Congresswoman Susie Lee released a statement remembering last year's UNLV statement:
My heart is with UNLV and our southern Nevada community today. One year ago, UNLV students and faculty were instructed to RUN-HIDE-FIGHT. They barricaded themselves behind classroom doors, hid under their desks, and texted their family, ‘I love you.’ By day’s end, three faculty members were taken from us: Patricia Navarro Velez, Jerry Cha-Jan Chang, and Naoko Takemaru. We must end this sick cycle of gun violence, and it can never be normalized. This was not normal last year and it is not normal today. In Congress, we have passed historic gun safety legislation, but it’s not enough. We have to honor all those we lost with more action.
