Las Vegas Sun: Nevada Democrats split over ending government shutdown

November 12, 2025

Nevada’s federal delegation split sharply over a funding package that ended a record 43-day government shutdown Wednesday night.

All three of Nevada’s Democratic House members — Reps. Dina Titus, Susie Lee and Steven Horsford — voted against the measure, which passed the Republican-controlled House 222-209. President Donald Trump signed it hours later.

The agreement failed to extend the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credits — the key Democratic priority during the shutdown standoff.

The Democrats did secure a promise to vote on the subsidies next month. However, with Republicans controlling both chambers and the White House, it has little chance of passing.

Rep. Susie Lee, D-Nev, also voiced her concerns with the legislation, similarly saying that it does not stop the cost of health care from “skyrocketing.” Republicans, Lee said, “own the shutdown” and “jeopardizing health coverage for so many Americans.”
