Nevada leaders push for child tax credit expansion to combat poverty

October 8, 2024

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Nevada Congresswoman Susie Lee is advocating for financial support to help families across the state rise out of poverty.

On Tuesday, Lee joined the Culinary Union at the Culinary Health Center to call for the expansion of the Child Tax Credit (CTC).

Union leaders, state leaders, and parents emphasized the importance of expanding the CTC, which is set to expire in 2025.

The credit currently provides up to $3,600 per child and has benefited more than 160,000 families in Nevada, according to lawmakers.

"The Child Tax Credit helps working families," said Congresswoman Lee.

The House of Representatives passed the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act earlier this year, but it still awaits a vote in the Senate. Both political parties have shown interest in expanding the tax credit in some form if elected in November.
