News 3: United Way of Southern Nevada gets $850K investment to help tax assistance clinics

May 28, 2024

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The United Way of Southern Nevada has received an $850,000 federal investment to help nonprofits that provide income tax assistance for low- and moderate-income communities.

U.S. Rep. Susie Lee, D-Nevada, helped present the investment on Tuesday to improve volunteer income tax assistance, or VITA, clinics.

VITA clinics have helped bring back $1.3 million to Nevadans, according to Lee's office, and the United Way says the program is vital to the community.

"No one likes taxes, and I know we're all happy that Tax Day is behind us, but my office is constantly working with residents who have errors in filing or delays in getting their returns," Lee said in a statement. "Thankfully, we have United Way and their partner organizations working every day to help southern Nevadans avoid tax related problems. Today’s new investment means more Nevadans will get the help they need."

Janet Quintero, vice president of external affairs for the United Way of Southern Nevada, said they will use the funding to offer grants to organizations in need so they can rehabilitate their spaces.
