Rep. Lee released the following statement:

"While going back to school is an exciting time, it is also stressful, especially for parents who need to get supplies and get multiple kids ready for the school year. It's no secret that Nevada is lagging behind when it comes to education, and part of that is because our students and teachers don't have the resources they need to succeed. Often teachers even need to dip into their own pockets to buy supplies, and that's because our schools just don't have the resources or funding to support every student. I introduced a landmark education bill, the Keep our PACT Act, which would fully fund underserved Title 1 public schools, putting much-needed resources directly into our southern Nevada classrooms. I will keep working in Congress to improve our schools, but obviously no one can improve our education system alone, and community programs like this go such a long way to making sure our kids get the education they deserve."

Background

  • The Keep Our Promise to America's Children and Teachers (PACT) Act, which would put Congress on a fiscally-responsible path to meet its obligation to fully fund Title I and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) on a mandatory basis over the next 10 years.
  • The Keep our PACT Act companion bill was introduced in the Senate by Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD).
