Congresswoman Lee Announces $1 Million for Wildlife Conservation Projects
WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) announced that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has awarded more than $1 million to the Nevada Department of Wildlife for wildlife conservation projects in one of the most biodiverse places in the country.
Today’s investment will support the Nevada State Wildlife Action Plan, which aims to protect more than 350 Species of Greatest Conservation Need and 20 critical habitats. Last month, Congresswoman Lee announced more than $24 million from the FWS to support wildlife and habitat conservation and restoration.
“Not only is Nevada home to amazing natural landscapes, but it also supports incredible biodiversity. This funding will support efforts to conserve that biodiversity, especially for at-risk and imperiled species in the Silver State,” said Congresswoman Lee. “I'm committed to ensuring that our public lands are protected and enjoyable for all, and I look forward to working with state and federal partners to continue investing in these conservation efforts.”
The FWS provided today’s investment of $1,047,776 through the State Wildlife Grant (SWG) program to support the conservation of imperiled wildlife and their habitats across the nation. Since 2000, the SWG program has distributed over $1.29 billion to partner agencies for research, fish and wildlife surveys, species restoration, habitat management, and species monitoring, among other conservation activities.
