Congresswoman Lee Announces $1.4 million in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Funding to Improve Pedestrian Safety
WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) announced the U.S. Department of Transportation is awarding $1.4 million to the city of Las Vegas for improvements to road safety after she signed onto a letter of support for the city’s application last October.
The direct investment was made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that Congresswoman Lee helped negotiate and pass last Congress. Specifically, the funding comes from the Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) Grants Program to explore the implementation of AI-powered adaptive pedestrian detection systems at 17 locations in high-traffic pedestrian areas. These technologies can significantly reduce pedestrian-related crashes and improve traffic flow along our community’s roadways.
“I was proud to help negotiate and pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to ensure southern Nevadans would directly benefit, and we’re already seeing the results,” said Congresswoman Susie Lee. “This is the type of direct investment and cutting-edge technology our community needs to build a 21st century economy. I look forward to seeing the city of Las Vegas put this crucial funding to good use so that our roads can become safer and more efficient for every Nevadan.”
