Congresswoman Lee Announces $17+ Million Investment for Local Projects Passes House as Part of Bipartisan Budget Package
WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) voted to pass a bipartisan government funding package for Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) in the House of Representatives, which includes over $17 million for 12 community projects in southern Nevada that she requested.
The bipartisan budget overall reflects Congresswoman Lee’s commitment to a wide range of priorities for southern Nevada, which she was able to champion from her seat on the powerful House Appropriations Committee.
“Every day from my seat on the House Appropriations Committee, I have been southern Nevada’s voice in the room where our nation’s most important funding decisions are made," said Congresswoman Susie Lee. "Today, I helped pass in the House a bipartisan budget package that includes over $17 million of direct investment in 12 projects across southern Nevada. When signed into law, this federal investment will make our streets and schools safer, support our first responders and national security, protect our water and public lands, make housing more affordable, and improve our transportation infrastructure.”
The full list of community projects that will receive funding through Congresswoman Lee’s appropriations requests include:
- $1,000,000 for LVMPD Emergency Command Vehicle Replacement
- $3,500,000 for Lake Mead/Las Vegas Wash Program
- $1,316,279 for St. Vincent Apartments
- $850,000 for Hands of Hope Community Food Pantry Renovation
- $2,500,000 for High Injury Network Streetlight Safety Upgrades
- $850,000 for Advanced Public Transit Driver Assistance
- $1,000,000 to Reconstruct the Airfield Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Station
- $1,000,000 for Red Rock Canyon Trail Improvements
- $2,200,000 for Henderson Airport Terminal Building Remodeling
- $959,757 for Southern Nevada Water Authority for Septic Conversion Program Phase 1
- $850,000 for Non-Profit VITA Sites Rehabilitation
- $982,000 for UNLV Analytical Equipment for Standardized Tectonic Measurement
In addition to her 12 community projects, Congresswoman Lee also helped pass a number of wins for southern Nevada in the bipartisan package. Highlights of those wins include:
- Full funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), and other child nutrition programs.
- Blocked funding for Yucca Mountain and continued to ensure that Nevada never becomes the nation’s nuclear waste dumping ground.
- Provisions supporting Congresswoman Lee’s VA Zero Suicide Initiative to eliminate veteran suicide, alongside over $16 billion for mental health care and over $550 million for veteran suicide prevention.
- Protected funding for the Bureau of Reclamation’s WaterSMART program and existing OpenET consortium funding to protect Nevada’s water.
- Investments for additional research, screenings, and treatment for veterans exposed to toxic substances.
- Investments for Nellis Air Force Base, the Nevada Army National Guard, and the construction of military child development centers.
- Increased funding for the Violence Against Women Act through the Department of Justice.
- Funding to support low-income home ownership and investments to make housing more affordable through the HOME Investment Partnerships Program.
- Increased investments for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) National Priority Safety Program.
This round of funding is the first of two expected packages to fund the entire federal government and avert a government shutdown. The second package is expected to be taken up by the House in the coming weeks.
Congresswoman Lee has been a bipartisan champion for Nevada's Third Congressional District. To date, she has now secured over $57 million for local projects across southern Nevada and returned over $30 million to constituents through casework. She serves as Vice-Chair of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus and has been named the #1 most bipartisan member of Congress across the U.S. House of Representatives, Senate, and all state governors.
