Congresswoman Lee Announces Even More Housing Investments Rolling into Nevada

Additional $43 Million in Federal Housing Grants for Affordable and Stable Housing

WASHINGTON – On the heels of yesterday’s announcement that local Nevada housing organizations would be receiving $6 million in housing investments, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) announced an additional $43 million in federal investments to improve and expand affordable housing in Nevada.

The funding is broken down by various programs to support affordable and stable housing across Nevada:

  • Over $23 million via the Community Development Block Grants, which work to develop stronger, more resilient communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income people.
  • Over $11 million via the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, which is the primary federal tool for states and local governments to produce affordable rental and owner-occupied housing for low-income families. Since 1992, the HOME program has helped Nevada construct 4,891 affordable housing units and 3,130 rental units, while providing 810 households with homebuyer assistance and 8,831 households with funding for rehabilitation projects.
  • Over $2 million in Emergency Solutions Grants, which provide funding for homeless shelters, assists in the operation of local shelters, and funds related social service and homeless prevention programs. Recipients enable people to quickly regain stability in permanent housing after experiencing a housing crisis and/or homelessness.
  • Over $3 million for the Housing Trust Fund (HTF) is an affordable housing production program that complements existing Federal, state and local efforts to increase and preserve the supply of decent, safe, and sanitary affordable housing for extremely low- and very low-income households, including families experiencing homelessness.
  • Over $4 million for the Housing Opportunities for Persons With HIV/AIDS (HOPWA) program to provide stable and permanent housing assistance and supportive services to low-income people living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

“No one should have to worry about how to keep a roof over their head and these new investments will directly address that issue for a wide variety of southern Nevadans,” said Congresswoman Susie Lee. “As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, it’s my job to bring back federal dollars to our community. I will continue fighting to lower costs for working families and secure investments to expand affordable housing.”
