Congresswoman Lee Announces Nearly $10 Million to Support Youth with Disabilities

September 11, 2023

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) announced nearly $10 million has been awarded to the Nevada Department of Education for projects that help children and youth with disabilities thrive and reach successful employment outcomes. This funding will support over 300,000 children with disabilities across Nevada with better options for career exploration, more work-based learning opportunities, and increased exposure to postsecondary opportunities.

"I spent my career in education working to help Nevada youth achieve their highest potential – this grant will help ensure that everyone, regardless of disability status has that same access to long-term employment success," said Congresswoman Susie Lee. "I'm proud to announce funding that will invest in partnerships, innovative services, and most importantly opportunities for children and youth with disabilities who are too often overlooked and under-supported."

The U.S. Department of Education Disability Innovation Fund awarded this $9,964,894.81 grant to further the efforts of the Nevada Transitions Roadmap through Innovative Partnerships Project (Nevada TRIP). Boosted by this new funding over five years, the project will continue to enhance collaboration across Nevadan stakeholders and service providers to better support youth with disabilities as they prepare for postsecondary employment opportunities. Investments like this are critical to ensuring that the approximately 20,000 children with disabilities in Clark County have the support they need to build happy, healthy, and successful futures.

Representing the Third Congressional District of Nevada, Congresswoman Lee is a staunch advocate for finding common ground and advancing bipartisan investments in Nevadans' futures. An education leader even before coming to Congress, she leads the bicameral Keep Our Promise to America's Children and Teachers Act, which would ensure full funding for federal programs to support disadvantaged students and children with disabilities. As Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Women's Caucus and Vice Chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus, Congresswoman Lee has been named one of the top ten most bipartisan Members in the U.S. House and the most bipartisan Member from Nevada.
