Congresswoman Lee Announces Nearly $2 Million for Violence Against Women Prevention Program
WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) announced that nearly $2 million has been awarded to the Nevada Attorney General's Office to strengthen partnerships and strategies to combat violent crimes against women and to improve victim services.
"Everyone deserves to feel safe in their homes and communities, and this funding will help strengthen support for women and survivors of domestic violence here in Nevada," said Congresswoman Lee. "Last Congress, I was proud to help reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. Today, I applaud this grant that will help ensure that we are doing everything we can to stop violent crimes against women and deliver resources to victims in need."
The U.S. Department of Justice awarded this $1,899,634 grant to Nevada through the Services, Training, Officers, Prosecutors (STOP) Violence Against Women Formula Grant Program. The grant program encourages partnerships between law enforcement, prosecution, courts, and victim services organizations to enhance victim safety and hold offenders accountable in cases of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. This funding is key for our state, where almost 44% of Nevada women report having experiences physical intimate partner violence. The federal support is especially important for Clark County, where 80% of domestic violence statewide occurs.
