Congresswoman Lee Announces New Investments to Build More Affordable Homes and Lower Housing Costs
WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) announced $50 million federal investment for the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority and the City of Las Vegas to build and revitalize southern Nevada homes, as well as broader community investments for healthier living and a stronger local economy.
Specifically, the Department of Urban Development and Housing (HUD) investment will restore 235 existing affordable housing units for extremely low-income renters and build 400 new units of housing. It will also invest in an early learning center and provide support for small businesses. The funds will leverage an additional $212 million in public and private resources in this community, that will activate indoor and outdoor community spaces, and provide supportive services to residents.
In addition to new investments, the announcement also includes plans for the Department of the Interior (DOI) to repurpose public land sustainably to enable as many as 15,000 additional affordable housing units to be built in Nevada. This comes shortly after Congresswoman Lee’s bipartisan legislation to speed up housing projects on federal lands passed out of the U.S House of Representatives.
“Affordable housing isn’t just a priority in southern Nevada, it’s a necessity,” said Congresswoman Susie Lee. “These wide-ranging investments to lower housing costs by going after Big Corporate Landlords and freeing up land for more affordable homes is critical to addressing our housing crisis. I’ll continue fighting in Congress for commonsense solutions and federal dollars to keep a roof over every southern Nevadan’s head.”
Congresswoman Lee also cosponsors legislation to crack down on corporate landlords who buy up local homes and raise costs for working families, seniors, and veterans, while also securing millions in federal dollars to continue investing in lower housing costs.
