LAS VEGAS – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) held a roundtable discussion with local experts on child nutrition programs in southern Nevada. They emphasized the need to protect these critical programs from the dangerous funding cuts that extreme Republican politicians have proposed and threatened to shut down the federal government over.

Nevada ranks 38th in the nation for children's health generally and 26th when it comes to kids' nutrition, physical activity, and obesity specifically. Nevada children depend on nutrition assistance programs each and every day. However, access to these resources is under threat at the state and federal levels, as extremists threaten to shut down the government and impose reckless cuts to the nutrition programs so many Nevadan children rely upon.

"Adequate child nutrition is the most essential building block to a healthy, secure life, from stronger educational attainment to better health outcomes. Yet, one in six children in southern Nevada lives at risk of hunger, and over 400,000 Nevadans depend on nutrition assistance programs like SNAP and WIC to keep their families healthy and fed. But extremists in Washington are working to slash this critical support for Nevadan families and children," said Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03). "I'm committed to ensuring that every child has the nutrition they need not just to survive, but to thrive, and I'm proud to stand alongside local leaders and child nutrition advocates in this fight."

Representing the Third Congressional District of Nevada, Congresswoman Lee is a bipartisan champion for southern Nevada families and children. Last year, Congresswoman Lee announced more than $650,000 for emergency food assistance programs, and she championed legislation to tackle the infant formula crisis. As Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Women's Caucus and Vice Chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus, Congresswoman Lee has been named one of the top ten most bipartisan Members in the U.S. House and the most bipartisan Member from Nevada.
