LAS VEGAS – Today, Congresswoman Lee (NV-03) joined Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael Regan, Region 9 Administrator Martha Guzman, and state and local clean energy advocates in a press conference after touring a solar-powered cooling center.
The policymakers and advocates discussed more than $156 million in solar investments for the Nevada Clean Energy Fund as part of the Solar for All grant program, which was made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act that Congresswoman Lee helped pass. As extreme heat continues to soar, the investments are not only supporting cooling centers to help keep folks safe and healthy, but also capture an abundance of renewable energy from southern Nevada’s 300+ sunny days per year while lowering energy costs for southern Nevada communities.
“As we all know, communities across the country are dealing with extreme heat – we just happen to be a little more extreme,” said Congresswoman Lee. “This solar-powered cooling center is just one example of how we're helping families beat the heat. And because of the federal Solar Power for All program, we’ll soon be seeing more of these projects as southern Nevada leads the nation in efforts to build a clean energy economy.”
The press conference also comes on the heels of an announcement by Congresswoman Lee and Unimacts Solar Manufacturing of over 200 new jobs in southern Nevada earlier this year, which was also a direct product of investments made by the Inflation Reduction Act.
