LAS VEGAS – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) highlighted the impact of more than $3 million in federal investments she helped secure for the Salvation Army’s housing support services for southern Nevada veterans and their families.
As a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies, Congresswoman Lee helped ensure robust funding for the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program that provided this federal investment to the Salvation Army through the Department of Veterans Affairs.
“This new $3 million federal investment is helping ensure Nevada veterans don’t have to worry about how to keep a roof over their heads,” said Congresswoman Lee. “The Salvation Army does incredible work for southern Nevada’s veterans and I want to thank Brandon and his family for sharing their story of accessing this support. There is nothing more important in my job than having our veterans’ backs.”
“We very much appreciate the assistance of Congresswoman Lee in securing funding for veteran services, and we could not provide these services without the help of local, state, and federal partners and our donors,” said Major Harold Laubach, Divisional Secretary, Salvation Army. “The Salvation Army offers many different programs, from emergency shelters and permanent housing to vocational training, mental health services, and case management. Veterans in our community are able to take part in these programs because of the public’s help.”
Over the past year, the Salvation Army has provided rapid rehousing and homeless prevention services to nearly 800 veterans and their family members, including disabled and low-income veterans, as well as seniors and children. Programs like these have collectively helped place more than 46,500 homeless veterans across the country into permanent housing last year alone.
Lee was joined by regional leadership for the Salvation Army, including Majors Maggie and Harold Laubach, as well as Case Managers — some of whom are veterans themselves — who work directly with veterans in need, and a local veteran and his family who have directly benefitted from the housing services that the Salvation Army provides. Lee also toured the campus’ case management offices and food pantry facility.
