Congresswoman Lee Hosts Roundtable with Local AFSCME Union Members on How Administration’s Cuts to Public Services Affect Working Families

April 27, 2025

LAS VEGAS – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) joined American Federation of State County Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 4041 members at their Southwest area office for a roundtable to discuss how federal cuts to public services will have a devastating effect on hardworking Nevada families. In Nevada, AFSCME represents more than 17,000 public sector workers.

“Slashing federal funding for public services affects our healthcare, education, and infrastructure — and would devastate thousands of state workers like our hardworking AFSCME union members. These men and women keep Nevada running and do incredible work for our families,” said Congresswoman Lee. “Recklessly and indiscriminately dismantling public services doesn’t help lower costs for working families. The bottom line is that this Administration is gutting programs our families rely on so they can take that money and give tax cuts to the wealthy.”

Nearly 30% of Nevada’s total revenue comes from federal funding – with a significant portion of that funding supporting Medicaid for children, people with disabilities, veterans and senior citizens. AFSCME Local 4041 members provide essential public services in Nevada, including transportation, sanitation, public works, education, public health, and more.

Congresswoman Lee was joined by AFSCME Local 4041 members including Mental Health Technician III at Stein Forensic Hospital Annita Stein Martinez; Psychiatric Nurse II at Stein Forensic Hospital Jared Kleusner; Case Worker at the Dept of Welfare and Social Services Jacqueline “Jackie” Bertot; Developmental Specialist III Aging and Disability Services Division, Desert Regional Center Olimpia Romero; Developmental Specialist III at the Aging and Disability Services Division, Desert Regional Center Rosina Barrientos; and AFSCME Retiree Member Jack Levine.
