Congresswoman Lee Introduces Bipartisan Legislation to Help Students Pursue Military Careers

October 11, 2024

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) and Congressman Jake LaTurner (KS-02)introduced bipartisan legislation to help improve secondary school and military career outcomes. The Military and Educational Data Integration Act would help states access military enlistment data to better inform both high school students and educators on military careers and more accurately track the outcome of students who choose a career in the military after graduation.

This bipartisan legislation addresses a critical gap in information that currently prevents schools from effectively informing students about the diverse and rewarding career options available within the military and verifying that they have adequately prepared students for military careers. With accurate and timely data, educators can provide students with a clearer understanding of the benefits and opportunities military service offers, ranging from engineering to healthcare roles.

“Serving our country in the armed forces is an honor and a legitimate career path for students with a wide variety of professional and academic interests,” said Congresswoman Susie Lee. “Students and families deserve the best information possible to choose the path that best fits their needs and goals. This bipartisan legislation is a big step toward fostering partnerships and filling critical information gaps between educational and military organizations.”

“Serving in our nation’s military is an honorable calling, and the courageous men and women who answer it also open the door to a variety of career pathways,” said Congressman LaTurner. “The military offers careers in engineering, health care, public affairs, and much more. This legislation provides our state educational systems with accurate and readily available information about military careers, and in turn gives students better insight on how they can pursue their interests after high school while serving their country.”
