Congresswoman Lee Introduces Legislation to Boost Large-Scale Water Recycling Projects in Nevada

April 16, 2024

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03)Congresswoman Grace F. Napolitano (CA-31)Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-07), and Congressman Jared Huffman (CA-02) introduced the Large-Scale Water Recycling Reauthorization and Investment Act of 2024 to extend a water recycling grant program for large-scale projects in southern Nevada and sixteen other Western states.

The successful Large-Scale Water Recycling Project Grant Program was originally made possible by Congresswoman Lee’s legislation last Congress and was incorporated into the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which she also helped negotiate and pass. The new legislation reauthorizes that program within the Department of the Interior for another six years for large-scale water recycling projects and increases the authorization from $450 million to $1 billion for the program, which covers the Bureau of Reclamation's 17 western states, including Nevada. This comes at the same time that the American West continues to face the effects of one of its worst droughts in history.

“We need to save every drop of water we can to combat one of the worst droughts in the history of the American West,” said Congresswoman Susie Lee. “That’s why I was proud to deliver over $122 million for local water projects last year — and why I’m so proud to help lead the reauthorization of the Large-Scale Water Recycling Project Grant Program this year. This critical program was made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that I helped negotiate and pass, and I look forward to seeing it reauthorized for another six years to continue delivering the resources our communities need.”

Congresswoman Susie Lee has been a champion for protecting southern Nevada’s water and combatting the effects of our drought. In 2023, she secured over $122 million for local water projects, introduced legislation to fill gaps in water management data, and most recently is leading the effort to free up unused funds for critical upgrades to Hoover Dam at no additional cost to taxpayers.
