LAS VEGAS – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) held a press conference to announce an $800,000 federal investment she secured for Workforce Connections to train Nevadans in high-demand careers and targeted industries while supporting southern Nevada’s economic recovery, diversification, and continued growth.
The investment will help local companies develop stronger talent pipelines in high-need industries by expanding training for at least 100 individuals preparing for employment opportunities. The trainings will support southern Nevada’s target industry sectors for economic growth and diversification:
- Healthcare Services
- General & Advanced Manufacturing
- Information & Communications Technologies
- Logistics & Transportation Technologies
- Clean Technologies
- Business & Financial Services
- Creative Industries
“As we expand beyond our reputation for entertainment, service, and hospitality, I’m proud that we’re doing it while still holding true to the principle that defines our community: that southern Nevada is a people-driven economy,” said Congresswoman Susie Lee. “To create economic growth, we need to invest in the people who keep our economy running in the first place. Today’s investment will help Workforce Connections make sure that our job-seekers are trained with skills needed to fill positions quickly and efficiently. Together, we’re working to make southern Nevada a hub for everything from manufacturing to healthcare services to business and technology.”
“Workforce development is economic development," said Jaime Cruz, Workforce Connections Executive Director. “By expanding training opportunities for Southern Nevadans, we can help businesses hire the skilled workers required to succeed and grow while helping job seekers secure higher-paying jobs in our region's in-demand industries.”
Lee was joined by Workforce Connections Executive Director Jaime Cruz, Las Vegas City Councilwoman Olivia Diaz, Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Executive Director Kelvin Watson, and local workers and small business owners.
