Congresswoman Lee Secures Nearly $14 Million Federal Investment to Expand Educational Opportunities for Students

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) announced that the United States Department of Education has awarded Opportunity 180 a $13,994,986 grant to create 15,390 high-quality seats at 27 new, expanding, and replicating schools in the first year of a five-year project. The total expected funding from the program over the full five-year period is more than $50 million.
“Southern Nevada students deserve access to a high-quality education and opportunities to succeed,” said Congresswoman Susie Lee. “This funding will help increase access to those opportunities for thousands of Nevada families. I spent my career working with students to help them achieve their highest potential, and I’m always ready to ensure our schools and kids get the resources they need from Washington.”
Lee co-signed a letter of support for Opportunity 180, which partners with local schools to launch, sustain, or replicate successful schools and increase access to a high-quality education. This federal investment will increase the number of high-quality public charter schools serving high-need communities and educationally disadvantaged student populations, and position Nevada’s charter sector as a leader in authorizing quality and academic performance.
Before coming to Congress, Lee spent two decades leading education non-profits – reducing dropout rates and making sure our kids had the wrap-around services they needed to thrive.
