Congresswoman Lee Statement on the 60th Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid

July 30, 2025

LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) released the following statement on the 60th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid becoming law, reaffirming her commitment to protecting the lifesaving health care thousands of Nevadans depend on:

“For the 60 years since being signed into law, Medicaid and Medicare have helped millions of Americans access the health care they need and deserve. Nevadans rely on these programs for everything from cancer treatment to nursing home care and routine checkups.

“But Republicans in Congress have made catastrophic cuts to these essential health care programs that will endanger the health coverage of over 114,000 Nevadans. Instead of lowering health care costs for working families, they are giving tax breaks to their billionaire friends.”

Passed in 1965, Medicare and Medicaid now cover more than 140 million Americans, including seniors, people with disabilities, children, new mothers, and low-income families. In Nevada’s Third Congressional District, they provide essential health care and financial security for families across the region.
