Congresswoman Lee Statement on Supreme Court Decision Regarding Emergency Abortion Care

June 27, 2024

WASHINGTON — Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) released the following statement on the recent Supreme Court decision in Moyle v. U.S. and Idaho v. U.S. regarding whether emergency abortion care is included under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA):

“Do not be fooled by this decision. While I’m relieved that this will protect some women in Idaho seeking lifesaving care, it does nothing to protect one in three women in this country who live in states that have banned or severely restricted a woman’s choice after Roe v. Wade was overturned.

“Today’s decision leaves the door open to future attempts to control women’s bodies, all pulled from the same playbook that anti-choice extremists have been using to dismantle women’s rights. I will not rest until every woman has the freedom to make private decisions about her own body.”
