Congresswoman Lee Votes Against Budget Resolution That Cuts Medicaid, Food Assistance for Seniors, and Services for Children with Disabilities
WASHINGTON — Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) voted against a Republican Budget Resolution that cuts Medicaid, food assistance for seniors, and services for children with disabilities to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations:
"Don’t be fooled by this bill that Republicans just passed.
“It will cut Medicaid for millions, food assistance for seniors, and services for children with disabilities. All so they can turn around and give tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations, while adding $3 trillion to our national debt.
“At a time when gas, grocery, and housing prices are rising, we should be voting on legislation to stabilize our economy and help working families. But instead, Republicans in Congress are voting to give tax breaks to the wealthy.”
Nevada Statistics:
- In Nevada’s Third Congressional District, the Republican budget would provide an average annual tax cut of $314,266 for the richest 0.1% and $2 trillion in total giveaways to CEOs and big corporations.
- 811,962 Nevadans are enrolled in Medicaid for healthcare, which includes nearly 40% of children in Nevada, more than half of nursing home residents, and one third of people with disabilities.
- Medicaid is not a controversial program—three quarters of Americans support it, including 63% of Republicans, 87% of Democrats, and 81% of Independents.
