Day 20: Congresswoman Susie Lee Continues to Working with Colleagues to Reopen the Federal Government

January 10, 2019

Washington, DC – As the federal government enters day 20 of the shutdown, Congresswoman Susie Lee and House Democrats are doing everything they can to reopen the government. Today, Congresswoman Lee joined House Democrats to pass yet another bill that passed the Senate last month on a bipartisan vote.

Rep. Susie Lee released the following statement on today's votes:

"Federal employees' savings accounts are drying up, their credit cards are maxed out, and their rents are due. Enough is enough. Our dedicated public servants should not be held hostage. The House is doing everything we can to reopen the end this shutdown, Mitch McConnell and the President need to step up to the plate and do the same. Today, we passed another bipartisan bill that the Senate easily passed in December. These bills would re-open the Departments of Agriculture, Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development. Air Traffic Controllers are currently working without pay, tenants in HUD-supported Housing are at risk of eviction, and our nation's food supply is not being inspected for the health or safety violations. Every day this shutdown continues only further drags down our economy and harms more hard working Americans. Once we reopen the government, it will be time to sit down and make progress on comprehensive immigration reform, which naturally includes border security."
