ENGLISH/ESPAÑOL: Rep. Susie Lee Highlights Accomplishments for Working Families at Labor Press Conference
Henderson, Nev. - Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) released the following statement after hosting a press conference with Reps. Dina Titus (Nev.-01) and Steven Horsford (Nev.-04) to underline policies and priorities for Nevada's working families and economy:
"Since my first day in Congress, I have prioritized southern Nevada's working families. We need to champion common sense, concrete legislation because right now, too many Americans are working full-time, but still struggling to make ends meet. The cost of living keeps rising, health care and prescription drug costs are through the roof, and retirement funds and pensions are evaporating, all while wages are more or less stagnant for most Americans. Along with my colleagues, Reps. Titus and Horsford, we have helped pass smart, concrete legislation like the Raise the Wage Act, a repeal of the Cadillac tax, and both the SECURE Act and the Butch Lewis Act to secure retirement funds and pension plans for working families.
"Unfortunately, these bills, and many others with bipartisan support, are just piling up on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's desk as he continues to stall any and all legislative progress in Congress. So long as I represent Nevada's 3rd Congressional District, I refuse to stop fighting to get things done and pass policy to help southern Nevada's workers and the economy thrive."
BACKGROUND: Rep. Lee championed and helped pass the Raise the Wage Act, which would gradually raise the federal minimum wage for the first time in a decade to $15 per hour by 2026. She helped pass bipartisan legislation to repeal the Cadillac tax, a tax on employer health plans that would hurt the middle class. She also helped pass the Butch Lewis Act to reform pension plans and establish the Pension Rehabilitation Administration, and the SECURE Act to open 401(k)s and Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) to more workers, while giving Americans more flexibility and security with their retirement plans.
