House Adopts Rep. Susie Lee’s Amendment to Improve Child Nutrition Programs in Public Schools
Washington, DC—Yesterday, Representative Susie Lee's (NV-03) amendment to increase investment in Child Nutrition Programs in public schools was adopted by the House . The amendment would approve increased funding for Team Nutrition, a program that enables schools to collaborate with the federal government to create healthy school environments and nutritious school meals.
Rep. Lee released the following statement:
"Good health is the initial building block in setting children up for academic success and it begins with good nutrition. This bill makes it clear that supporting good nutrition in schools is a priority. Team Nutrition is an effective program that allows schools to work together to figure how to make school meals as nutritious and tasty as possible. Unlimited sodium and sugar in school meals is not good for our kids' health, plain and simple. We need to start caring about the health of our young students. This amendment does just that by helping schools figure out how to reduce sodium and sugar levels and increase nutritious ingredients, while still making the meals appealing to young students."
