LAS VEGAS, NV – On Friday, August 29, 2025, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) and Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08) toured a new Switch AI factory and spoke with business executives and union leaders. Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Las Vegas, Switch develops and operates ultra-dense, renewable-powered data center campuses including “AI-factories” which are optimized to power artificial intelligence systems.

“Switch is bringing the cutting edge of AI innovation right here to southern Nevada. I was proud to welcome Leader Jeffries to tour their new AI factory and meet the union workers who make it all possible,” said Congresswoman Susie Lee. “The new factories Switch is building will help create good-paying jobs, continuing to diversify our economy. As Nevada families and businesses continue to feel the impact of tariffs and plummeting tourism rates, this is more important than ever.”

"It was an honor to tour the Switch campus with Congresswoman Susie Lee, a strong advocate for innovation, energy reform and economic growth in the Congress,” said Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries. “Our discussions with Switch leadership and union workers were enlightening, particularly as it relates to the foundational role that data centers play in American AI leadership and in creating good-paying jobs. I am grateful to Rep. Lee for her tremendous leadership, which has helped ensure that the people of southern Nevada continue to play a leading role in the 21st century technological innovation economy.”

Congresswoman Lee and Leader Jeffries toured the EVO AI factory that’s home to several of the world’s AI GPU systems. In their conversation with Switch executives and union leaders, the Members discussed Switch’s work to promote sustainability and improve energy grid stability, the growing AI industry, the national security implications of the AI race, and Switch’s existing and on-going working relationship with Nvidia.

As southern Nevada seeks to diversify its economy, new data centers present opportunities to create good-paying jobs and boost the local economy while ensuring the United States remains a leader in AI innovation. Switch estimates that the construction of the new factories will create approximately 400 new jobs in Las Vegas.

During the visit, Congresswoman Lee, Leader Jeffries, and Switch representatives also discussed recent threats to renewable energy infrastructure. Switch runs its facility on 100% renewable energy and has built solar facilities in Nevada to support its efforts. Investing in these forms of energy is especially important in Nevada, where the sun shines for more than 300 days a year and solar composes 31% of the state’s total energy generation. Congresswoman Lee has also consistently supported renewable energy development in Nevada and spoken out against efforts by the Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress to undermine Nevada’s growing solar industry.

During the 118th Congress, Congresswoman Lee served as a Vice Chair for the New Democrat Coalition’s first-ever AI Working Group. She is committed to working with lawmakers from both sides of the aisle to pursue commonsense policies to address new technological advancements and position the United States as a leader in AI innovation and safety.
