LAS VEGAS – U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) hosted a Facebook Live virtual briefing with Emma Sanchez, District Liaison, IRS Legislative Affairs, to answer constituents' questions about Economic Impact Payments, more commonly known as stimulus checks, as well as questions about the upcoming 2021 tax season.

Rep. Lee outlined the state of the second round of stimulus payments passed by Congress in December 2020:

"In December 2020, Congress authorized a second round of stimulus payments of $600 each, or $1200 for joint filers, plus an additional $600 for any child under the age of 17. The second round of stimulus payments began on December 29th. And to the best of our knowledge, they're completed, except for 2 million payments that will be reissued to individuals who had bank account issues. Eligible individuals who did not receive a second stimulus payment, or received less than what they're entitled to, will have to claim a recovery rebate credit on your 2020 tax returns."

Many Americans who received the first round of stimulus payments have not yet received the second round of payments. Ms. Sanchez explains why that may be:

Rep. Lee - "Some people receive the message on IRS.gov ‘stimulus payment not available.' If someone got a stimulus payment the first time, why would they not get the payment the second time?"

Ms. Sanchez - "Folks who received the first payment on their 2018 return, but for the second payment, their 2019 return has yet to be processed. If it didn't get sent out, you'll have to file for a recovery rebate credit. There are other issues it could be, but that seems to be the most common."

Rep. Lee - "And if you believe you should have gotten the second payment, you must file the recovery rebate credit with your 2020 tax return, is that correct?"

Ms. Sanchez - "Yes, that's correct."

Rep. Lee and Ms. Sanchez also discussed how to access the relevant rebate forms for 2020 tax returns, the recovery rebate credit process, the processes for different methods of payment (mailed check, direct deposit, EIP card), and more. The full Facebook Live briefing can be watched here.

In December 2020, former President Trump signed a bipartisan $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package passed by Congress, which included more vital pandemic relief for Nevadans including a second round of stimulus payments of $600 per individual.
