ICYMI: Rep. Susie Lee Hosts Roundtable for Student Veterans in Southern Nevada
Las Vegas, NV - Yesterday, Rep. Susie Lee hosted a roundtable for southern Nevada student veterans at Touro University. Rep. Lee spoke with student veterans, advocates, and college administrators to hear about their education experiences, and discuss solutions to improve their lives and help them succeed in higher education and beyond.
KLAS (CBS): Congresswoman Susie Lee made her way to Touro University in Henderson today for a veterans education roundtable. Student veterans were on hand to discuss the different challenges they face when making the switch from serving our country to going back to the classroom.
Rep. Susie Lee - "I just really want to hear from veterans, I want to hear from the public institutions--our higher ed. Institutions--on what are the strategies that we need to be implementing and what do we need to be doing from a federal government point of view that's going to make sure our veterans have the highest possibility of success in not only completing their education but completing their education that sets them up to get jobs that will lead them to have a secure income and secure retirement."
Last week, Congresswoman Lee launched the bipartisan Veterans Education Caucus with Republican Congressman Denver Riggleman (VA-05) to highlight the experiences of student veterans and open a dialogue about the challenges they face.
The long-term objectives of the Caucus is to promote veterans' educational and economic opportunity including but not limited to:
- Enhancing and increasing access to alternative educational opportunities, including career and technical education, trade certifications, apprenticeships, and other high-quality workforce development programs
- Protecting and expanding GI Bill benefits through technical corrections of the Higher Education Act
- Hosting briefings and roundtable discussions with subject matter experts, disseminating information, and providing resources to Members to learn about the education-related challenges facing America's veterans.
