Lee, Democratic Members of Congress Host Field Hearing in Las Vegas on Affordability and Cost of Living Crisis
Joined by Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Robert Garcia, Additional Oversight Members
Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03), Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04), and Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-01) hosted a field hearing on the cost of living crisis brought on by the Trump Slump. They were joined by Ranking Member Robert Garcia (CA-42), the top Democrat on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform—the main investigative committee of the House of Representatives, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL-10), and Congresswoman Emily Randall (WA-06).
“Today, we heard Nevadans loud and clear: costs are just too damn high. It’s everything from health care and groceries to utilities and rent—Nevadans are struggling,” said Congresswoman Susie Lee. “In fact, the average household in Nevada has spent more than $3,300 extra on goods and services under President Trump. And instead of doing anything to lower costs, Republicans in Washington have pushed through harmful policies that will only make it more difficult for working families to stretch their paychecks each month.”
The field hearing examined how President Trump’s policies have driven up the cost of living for working families, from skyrocketing gas prices and grocery bills thanks to his war of choice in Iran to rising housing costs and reckless tariffs that are killing jobs in Las Vegas.
Expert witnesses included Liz Pancotti, Vice President of Policy, Advocacy, and Research of Groundwork Collaborative; Ted Pappageorge, the Secretary-Treasurer of Culinary Workers Union Local 226; Phyllis Mallory-Edmonson, Health Care Administrator of Service Employees International Union; Juanny Romero, Founder & CEO of Mothership Coffee; and Donald Sherman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Citizens for Responsibility & Ethics in Washington.
