WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) signed a discharge petition that would fund TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard, along with every other part of DHS except for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). After signing the discharge petition, she released a video calling on her Republican colleagues to do the same.

TRANSCRIPT BELOW:

“Hey, I just left the floor of the House and put my signature on a discharge petition that would fund DHS, every department: TSA, FEMA, the Coast Guard, except ICE. We still need to have a serious reform agenda when it comes to ICE. They should operate like every other law enforcement agency. We have seen a proposal from the White House that has laid out some options, but with a lot of major, major loopholes that they could jump through.

“But in the meantime, Republicans could join Democrats, and sign this discharge petition, bring this bill to the floor so we can fund TSA agents, the rest of the Homeland Security, especially at a time that's so critical for our country, with the increased threat of terrorism attacks from Iran.

“It's a dereliction of duty to not sign this discharge petition and bring this bill to the floor for a vote.”

Congresswoman Lee has called for commonsense reforms and accountability measures to be included in the Department of Homeland Security funding bill to ensure ICE and CBP abide by the Constitution.

Congresswoman Lee has worked tirelessly to secure investments in public safety to keep southern Nevadans safe. Throughout her time in Congress, she has brought over $4.5 billion in public safety funding back home to southern Nevada. Last year, she introduced her bipartisan Invest to Protect Act, which would make targeted investments in small and midsize departments with fewer than 175 sworn police officers, providing vital funds for recruitment, retention, training, and officer support. Earlier this year, she introduced the PUBLIC SAFETY Act, redirecting $75 billion of extra ICE funding to local law enforcement departments to help hire and train 200,000 local cops nationwide.
