Lee's Common-Sense, Bipartisan Health Care Bills Pass U.S. House, One Step Closer to Becoming Law
WASHINGTON – This week, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) voted to pass two legislative packages out of the House that included two of her bipartisan, common-sense health care bills. The Support for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act passed the House yesterday and includes Congresswoman Lee’s Treatment, Recovery, Education, Awareness and Training for (TREAT) Youth Act. On Monday, the House passed the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act, which includes Congresswoman Lee’s Health Insurance Price Transparency Act. Both packages await a vote in the Senate before potentially being signed by the President into law.
“This week, the House passed two bipartisan bills that I introduced to help increase health care transparency and support youth struggling with addiction,” said Congresswoman Susie Lee. “When health insurance companies are open and honest about health care charges, southern Nevadans will be able to make better decisions and see lower costs. Our youth deserve more options to address addiction and my bill does just that. I urge the Senate to send these common-sense, bipartisan bills to the President’s desk.”
The TREAT Youth Act protects and supports youth and families struggling with substance abuse by reauthorizing the expired Preventing Youth Overdose: Treatment, Recovery, Education, Awareness and Training program under the Department of Health and Human Services through fiscal year 2028. Through this reauthorization, the strengthened program would provide grants to improve youth awareness of risks associated with fentanyl and opioids, increase access to medications for opioid use disorder, and train health care providers on best practices for supporting youth suffering from substance abuse.
The Health Insurance Price Transparency Act empowers and protects patients by expanding transparency in health care charges and rates, mandating price transparency requirements via a patient-specific transparency tool, and making machine readable files including negotiated rates and drug prices publicly available so consumers can easily compare rates.
As Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Women’s Caucus and Vice Chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus, Congresswoman Lee has been a strong advocate for bipartisan solutions in a divided Congress. Last Congress, Lee’s MOBILE Health Care Act was signed into law to increase access to health care services in rural and underserved communities.. Congresswoman Lee has been named the most bipartisan Member of Congress across the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate, and all state Governors.
