ONE YEAR LATER: Congresswoman Lee Statement on the One Year Anniversary of UNLV Shooting

December 6, 2024

LAS VEGAS – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) released the following statement remembering last year’s UNLV shooting that took the lives of three professors:

“My heart is with UNLV and our southern Nevada community today. One year ago, UNLV students and faculty were instructed to RUN-HIDE-FIGHT. They barricaded themselves behind classroom doors, hid under their desks, and texted their family ‘I love you.’ By day’s end, three faculty members were taken from us: Patricia Navarro-Velez, Jerry Chang, and Naoko Takemaru.

“We must end this sick cycle of gun violence, and it can never be normalized. This was not normal last year and it is not normal today. In Congress, we have passed historic gun safety legislation, but it’s not enough. We have to honor all those we lost with more action.”
