Rep. Lee Announces $131,000 in American Rescue Plan Grant Funding to Support Modernization of Community Health Centers in Southern Nevada

August 10, 2022

WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Susie Lee (NV-03) announced that the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has awarded FirstMed Health and Wellness Center and Southern Nevada Health District $65,500 each in American Rescue Plan grant funding to support data modernization efforts to better identify and respond to the needs of patients and communities through improved data quality and better prepare for future public health emergencies.

"Our community health centers are essential to ensuring that every Nevadan has access to high-quality, affordable health care, and that's why I've fiercely advocated to deliver the federal investments they need to provide for our families," said Rep. Lee. "I'm proud to announce this grant, and I'll continue to work to expand access to health care across our state so that we can keep our communities healthy."

"Community health centers ensure that access to health care services is available to everyone," said Dr. Fermin Leguen, District Health Officer for the Southern Nevada Health District. We are happy to receive this funding so we can continue to identify the needs of our community and to ensure that communities experiencing barriers to health care are able to access care at our Southern Nevada Community Health Center."

Rep. Lee has been a staunch advocate for community health centers. Last year, she introduced the bipartisan MOBILE Health Care Act to allow Federally-Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) to use grant funding to establish and renovate mobile health units and increase access to high-quality, affordable health care in rural and underserved communities. Earlier this year, Rep. Lee also introduced the Improving Access to Health Care in Rural and Underserved Areas act to provide additional support for primary care providers who serve FQHCs and Rural Health Clinics. Rep. Lee recently received the Distinguished Community Health Champion Award from the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) for her advocacy for community health centers in Nevada and across the country.
