Rep. Lee Announces More Than $650,000 in Grant Funding for Emergency Food Assistance in Nevada

June 7, 2022

WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Susie Lee (NV-03) announced that the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) will receive $652,983 in The Emergency Food Assistance Program's (TEFAP) Reach and Resiliency grant funding. The grant, awarded by the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), will support the implementation of NDA's project to identify communities underserved by the TEFAP program and obtain the resources necessary to receive and distribute more TEFAP foods, including through expansion of mobile and drive-through models of food distributions. The grant funding was made available through the American Rescue Plan (ARP).

"The pandemic only exacerbated food insecurity issues in Nevada. Now that we're on our way to recovery, we must continue to prioritize ensuring that every Nevadan has access to the nutritious foods they and their families need," said Rep. Lee. "I'm proud to have voted for the American Rescue Plan to make this TEFAP grant possible and look forward to the Nevada Department of Agriculture using this funding to increase food security across our state."

"Since 2019, food security for all Nevadans has been a priority for the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) and the Sisolak Administration. We must address not only the large urban areas of Las Vegas and Reno, but also the remote rural locations, including tribal communities," said Nevada Department of Agriculture Director Jennifer Ott. "The USDA TEFAP grant will allow the NDA to bring innovative food security solutions to rural communities and expand and implement mobile or drive-through models for food distribution."

Rep. Lee voted for ARP to address critical food insecurity issues at the height of the pandemic, including through establishing the TEFAP Reach and Resiliency Grant Program, extending the increase in SNAP benefits and providing additional funding for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program.
