Rep. Lee Announces Nearly $250,000 Grant to Promote Research on Aging

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) announced that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has granted Fibroplate, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company located in Nevada's Third District, a Small Business Innovation Research Grant (SBIR) of $246,634. This grant will help fund the company's research project, which will explore how medical professionals can accelerate bone healing in the elderly.

"It is important that we continue to support research in all fields of study," said Rep. Lee. "I am proud to announce this grant and to know that our strongest scientific breakthroughs can come from Las Vegas. I'm so excited to see what Fibroplate Inc. will achieve with this new funding."

"With this grant funding, Fibroplate, Inc. will continue to conduct top-notch medical research to save lives," said Dr. Richard Yen, the director of the project. "We just received our 5th NIH grant – this one to show that our product can accelerate healing in elderly folks who have suffered a severe bone fracture. I'm proud to be doing this important research right here in Las Vegas."
