May 11, 2022

WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) announced that Nevada received 68,000 new business applications in 2021, 20,000 of which are for businesses that are likely to hire employees, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau. The number of new applications increased by 58% when compared to the 2015-2019 average. Since January 2021, Nevada has created a total of 147,700 jobs, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

"Our small and local businesses are the backbone of our economy. That's why I am proud to have helped pass COVID relief, including the American Rescue Plan, to send them direct assistance to help them prosper throughout our recovery and beyond," said Rep. Lee. "Now, our economy is roaring back stronger than ever. I will continue to ensure our small businesses have the resources they need so that we can continue to create new jobs throughout southern Nevada and strengthen our economy."

Rep. Lee voted for the American Rescue Plan and the CARES Act to support small and local businesses at the height of the pandemic. Last month, she also voted to pass the Relief for Restaurants and Other Hard Hit Small Businesses Act to replenish funding for restaurants and establish a new program to assist other small businesses impacted by the pandemic.
