Rep. Lee Announces Over $270,000 in Grant Funding to Henderson Police Department to Bolster Response to Opioid Epidemic and Assist Victims of Crime
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) announced that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) awarded the City of Henderson's Police Department two Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grants, totaling $270,486. This funding will allow the Henderson Police Department to obtain a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and improve the efficiency of the department's lab to respond to the opioid epidemic, help crime victims through timely evaluation of evidence, provide data to law enforcement as to crime trends and patterns, and train its forensic scientists.
"The pandemic only exacerbated the opioid epidemic across the country, and it is vital that our local law enforcement has the resources to directly address this critical issue and continue to keep us safe," said Rep. Lee. "This funding will reinforce the Henderson Police Department's capacity to support our communities. I am proud to announce this grant, and I know that our local law enforcement entities will capitalize on this funding and strengthen their approach to protecting Nevadans."
"We are thrilled to receive notice of these Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grants. These funds support the purchase of the Henderson Police Department Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) system," said Henderson Police Chief Thedrick Andres. "An investment in this new system will benefit the southern Nevada region with faster turn-around times for forensic evidence processing, centralized documentation, reporting automation, and local jurisdiction file sharing. The LIMS will provide further efficiencies in lab operations that support victims of crime and the criminal justice system with accurate and timely forensic evaluations, improved statistics, and trends to reduce and prevent crime."
