Rep. Lee Announces Over $560,000 in American Rescue Plan Grants for Health Center Mobile Care Unit in NV-03

September 29, 2021

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) announced that the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has awarded First Person Care Clinic, a non-profit organization that provides medical care services in southern Nevada, $561,501 in funding from the American Rescue Plan (ARP). This award will help support the construction, expansion, and other capital improvements to expand the clinic's health care infrastructure and bring essential health care to more Nevadans.

"This grant is just one example of how the American Rescue Plan is changing the lives of Nevadans for the better," said Rep. Lee. "It is critical that we take action to achieve health equity and ensure that our medically underserved communities have access to quality health care services. I am proud to announce this grant, and I know that this is only one step of many to strengthen southern Nevada's health care infrastructure."

"First Person Care Clinic is delighted to receive this important award," said CEO of First Person Care Clinic, Roxana Valeton. "It will be used to fund a second mobile unit, allowing us to provide primary care to more patients from Henderson to Laughlin. The unit features improved refrigeration, allowing us to transport COVID-19 vaccinations further from our clinics than we can today. First Person has seen a large increase in the number of Medicaid patients in our Henderson clinic, and we look forward to growing our services and staff to meet the increased demand."

In addition to helping pass this critical funding for community health centers through the American Rescue Plan, Rep. Lee continues to fight to support Nevada's community health centers in other ways, including:

  • Securing through her position on the House Committee on Appropriations: $1.8 billion, an increase of $148 million above the FY 2021 enacted level, for the Community Health Centers program, including $50 million to support school-based health centers and $25 million to establish the Alcee Hastings Cancer Screening Program.
  • Introducing the MOBILE Health Care Act, which would allow community health centers to bring essential health care services to rural, underserved, and hard-to-reach populations in Nevada via mobile health units, as well as help Nevada's health centers renovate and expand their existing delivery sites.
