Rep. Lee Announces Over $6.7 Million Grant to Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada to Create Energy Efficient Bus Fleet

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) a $6,737,042 grant under its Low or No Emission (Low-No) Grant Program and Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program. This specific grant funding will be used to purchase two new hydrogen fuel cell electric buses and solar lighting at 250 bus stops in disadvantaged communities, making public transportation safer and more sustainable.

"So many southern Nevadans rely on public transportation every day, and investments like this one are critical to ensuring that we not only make our public transportation system cleaner and more efficient, but also as safe and accessible as possible," said Rep. Lee. "I'm proud to announce this grant, and I look forward to working with the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada to support sustainable transportation infrastructure in our state."

The Buses and Bus Facilities Program assists in the financing of buses and bus facilities capital projects, including replacing, rehabilitating, purchasing or leasing buses or related equipment, and rehabilitating, purchasing, constructing or leasing bus-related facilities. The Low-No Program supports the transition of the nation's transit fleet to the lowest polluting and most energy efficient transit vehicles. The Low-No Program provides funding to state and local governmental authorities for the purchase or lease of zero-emission and low-emission transit buses, including acquisition, construction, and leasing of required supporting facilities.
